Our Research

Our research starts from a simple question: what does a specific AI policy choice mean for the people it affects in India? We try to answer it with evidence, field experience, and attention to how government actually functions.

What we study

AI governance and regulation
How India should approach risk, accountability, and oversight of AI systems, and what it can learn from other countries without copying frameworks designed for different conditions.
AI in public administration
Where AI can improve service delivery in ministries, departments, and PSUs, where it cannot, and what procurement, data, and staffing changes are needed first.
Digital Public Infrastructure and AI
How platforms such as Aadhaar, UPI, and DigiLocker can serve as foundations for AI services, and what safeguards those combinations require.
States and AI
Much of governance in India happens at the state level. We study how states can build their own AI capacity, policies, and data systems.
Language and inclusion
How AI can work in Indian languages and for citizens with limited literacy or connectivity.
Skills and the workforce
How AI will change public sector jobs and what training officials need.

How we work

We publish only what we can support with evidence.

  • Drafts are reviewed by at least one external expert before release.
  • We disclose funding sources for each project.
  • Funders do not review or approve findings before publication.
  • Where we are uncertain, we say so.
